Bayelsa guber: Factional APC Chair accuses Sylva, Orunimigha of threatening delegates

The factional State Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), in Bayelsa State, Chief Richard Kpodoh, has written to the national leaders of the party over alleged involvement of the former governor, Chief Timipre Sylva, and the Party Chairman, Chief Tiwei Orunimigha, in shady negotiations and threatening delegates ahead of the party’s Governorship primaries.
According to Kpodo, independent investigations by members of the APC showed that while Sylva had deceitfully promised nine governorship aspirants the Governorship and Deputy Governorship tickets, Orunimigha was allegedly involved in cases of threats and harassment of proposed delegates for the governorship primaries to the effect that they should stay away from all aspirants except Sylva.
While speaking with newsmen, in Yenagoa, Kpodo said “the deceit and insincere attitude of Chief Timipre Sylva has come to bear within the party again. He has started promising people governorship tickets and deputy slots. These promises were made to the aspirants without the knowledge that he was running for the same seat.
“Sylva knows he can’t win election in Bayelsa State. His appointment as Deputy Chairman of the Transition Committee at the national level was a coincidence. Even the invitation to attend the dinner with the President was shared among non-party members. Those party members, including myself, that risked their lives and sold their houses to fund the battle for APC in Bayelsa were never invited.
“Investigations have shown that Tiwei Orunimigha has joined forces with his master and have started threatening those delegates to vote during the forthcoming party primaries in the state. We call on the national leadership of the party to investigate and allow a free and balanced race.”
Kpodo, who said that though he had filed a case of threat to life against the leaders of the party in the state over the plot to use the operatives of the Department of State Security (DSS) and the
Nigerian Police, “due to my critical posture against his defective leadership, Chief Timipre Sylva plan to deploy the security agencies to arrest and detain me over fictitious petition has failed.
“The claim that I was hiding inside the State Government House is false. The claim is another display of dubiousness and deceit by Chief
Timipre Sylva.”
Reacting to the allegations, the State Publicity Secretary of the APC, Mr. Fortune Panebi, debunked the allegation, describing it as malicious and capable of destablising the peaceful co-existence amongst the old and new members of the party.
He noted that it was just a propaganda emanating from the PDP-led government in the state, adding that Kpodoh had since been expelled from the party for anti-party activities.
He stated that the leader of the party in the state, Chief Timipre
Sylva, had always emphasised level playing ground for all the aspirants contesting, noting that it would be a replica of what happened in Lagos and Kogi states.
He urged the public to disregard such report in the interest of peace and decorum, while maintaining that the leadership of the party in the state remained committed and focused on ensuring the success of the forth-coming election
