There was gun battle at Oporoma in Southern Ijaw Local Government of Bayelsa state between two unidentified groups of youths Wednesday, if report reaching Creeknewsweekly.com is anything to go by.
The shooting between the two groups led to the death of about 13 persons from each side at the end of the day.
Sources closed to this online news say that one group headed by an ex-militant mobilized food items, mattresses and cooks to Oporoma suspected to be used for feeding during and after the election.
The source further said another group of youths in police uniforms on hearing that suspected a youth group has landed Oporoma for clandestine hijacking of electoral materials equally mobilized and move to Oporoma community.
It is gathered that the two groups later exchanged gun fire in the community which led to the increased insecurity situation of the town.
An unconfirmed report has it that the two youth groups were allegedly sponsored by politicians to intimidate one another during the December 5, 2015 governorship election.
Several attempts to confirm the story from the state police command PRO, Mr.Asinim Butswat proved abortive as his telephone rang out.
It could be recalled that the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase confirmed that police intelligence discovered that some youths in Bayelsa state have concluded plans to use army and police uniforms as disguise to rig election in the state. He made this known at INEC stakeholders meeting in the state capital.
He warned that anyone found wanting will be dealt with according to the law.
