Considering the length people who are not rice farmers go with the hope of obtaining Federal government approved loans meant for genuine farmers in the state, the Chairman of Rice Farmers Association (RIFAN) Bayelsa Chapter, Sir Ezekiel Ogbianko has said that gone are the days that the antics of such fake farmers will get them near any level of success in getting such loans.
Sir Ogbianko made this declaration while speaking at a capacity building workshop for rice farmers held at the NUJ Press Centre , Ekeki Yenagoa.
The workshop which was organized by Alukuro Ventures, Sir Ogbianko asserted, is an eye-opener for RIFAN members to enable them harness the abundant opportunities available for rice farmers in this modern times.
According to the RIFAN Chairman, members in the state are poised to produce 40,000 (forty thousand) hectares which amounts to 5, 000 (Five Thousand ) hectares per local government. adding that the workshop is a big development to Bayelsa because the agreement the central bank of Nigeria (CBN) has with RIFAN is for its members to produce rice that should feed not only the state, the entire country but also Africa at large.
Sir, Ogbiako remarked that the prevailing synergy between the Central Bank of Nigeria, Bank of Agriculture and RIFAN is a welcome development and no doubt a proof that President Buhari's led administration means well for agriculture.
This encouragement, he emphasized, will ensure that RIFAN Bayelsa supports Governor Henry Seriake's desire for a conducive environment that will make agriculture particularly, rice production thrive successfully in the state.
He however urged those planning to divide RIFAN through frivolous petitions to desist from that venture because they will not succeed because the association and it's members are very united.
