Samuel Timi Johnson a Tourism Trojan; developing the tourism & hospitality industry in Bayelsa State


Samuel Timi Johnson is a blessing to the good people of Bayelsa State and the entire Niger Delta region. He may not be known personally, but he is set to bring development to the people of the Bayelsa State and Nigeria at large in the field of Tourism & Hospitality sub-sector.
Who is Mr. Samuel Timi Johnson?
He is a very humble man from Bayelsa State. He is a Certified ServSafe Instructor and Registered ServSafe Examination Proctor of the National Restaurant Association of America with over thirty years of experience in the hospitality industry in the US.
He was born on the 14th day of March 1958 in Trofani Community, Sagbama Local Government of Bayelsa State where he hails from and he started his early education at the Enitonia High School, Borikiri in Port Harcourt, River State, before moving to the US to obtain Degree in Culinary and Food Service Management, from the Burlington County College, Mount Holly, NJ, USA.
He lived in Willingboro, New Jersey, United States of America for over 30 years with his humble family. He started his career at the Trump Taj Mahal Atlantic City, New Jersey as the Restaurant Chef, and also worked at various Hospitality Industry such as, Trenton Area Soup Kitchen, Trenton, NJ, as Head Chef/Kitchen Coordinator, Executive Chef, at “Feed The Heroes” Restaurant, New York, Production/Banquet Chef, at Kat Man Du Restaurant, Trenton, NJ, etc.
Having served as an Executive Chef at Ground Zero, venue of the 9/11 Twin Towers Terrorists attack in New York City. Today, Mr. Timi Johnson is a household name in New Jersey and New York City, where he has accomplished several feats as a result of his meritorious service. His love for his job and dedication to service has not come without awards and recognition from reputable institutions in the US.
The People's Magazine (Heroes of the Super Storm Sandy) 2012, recognized Mr. Johnson for volunteering and preparing free meals to victims and relief workers after Hurricane Sandy.
USA Today, The Times and the Burlington County Times, had featured Mr. Johnson, on their headlines for supervising and serving free meals to emergency workers near Ground Zero, in New York City. He was also honored by the Trenton NAACP for volunteering to feed emergency workers near Ground Zero. His company has catered for four Governors and numerous Mayors of the State of New Jersey.
But as a person that has the interest of his people at heart, he came back to Bayelsa State to contribute to the development of the State and the country at large.
Chef Timi Samuel Johnson has supervised and catered for four Governors and numerous Mayors of the State of New Jersey.
On his return to Nigeria, Chef Samuel Timi Johnson, being a patriotic Bayelsan, used the platform of the newly established International Institute for Tourism and Hospitality, Yenagoa to launch his food Safety and Sanitation campaign in Nigeria by voluntarily training the first sixty Nigerians on basic skills in Food Safety and Sanitation.
Consequently, the Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH) keyed into Mr. Johnson’s food safety campaign by signing an MOU with his company to carry out mandatory training for employees of the hospitality and tourism industry in Nigeria, covering the 36 states and Abuja for the next four years.
Seeing his dedication and passion to impact life, and due to his vast knowledge and experience in the Tourism & Hospitality industry, he was appointed as the Rector of the reputable International Institute of Tourism & Hospitality in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, by His Excellency, Governor Henry Seriake Dickson.
On assuming office as the Rector of the prestigious Institute, he moved into action and began to train manpower skill needed for the tourism sector. Within the short time, hundreds of people have been trained and certificated with internationally recognized certificates.
The Institute has trained the first batch of 100 Niger Delta Presidential Amnesty programme delegates out of 1000 with various skills in the Tourism and Hospital industry. This batch of trainees had been previously trained by the Amnesty programme but were not having good certificates, but at the Institute, they were given the needed skills and recertified. The Presidential Amnesty office has already supported the graduants with appropriate starter-packs to enable them become self-employed and employers of labour.
Just recently, he concluded training on food safety and sanitation for the Police Officer's Wife Association (POWA), Bayelsa State Command.
The Institute will soon start the training of another 100 of the delegates of the Presidential Amnesty Programme.
At present, he is in kano state under the auspices of National Quality Infrastructure projects (NQIP) of the United Nations in collaboration with the National Food Safety Management Committee spearheaded by FMOH on awareness and sensitization training on Food-safety and Sanitation to the stakeholders in Kano State.
He was among the team that briefed the Secretary to the Kano State Government (SSG) after the awareness and sensitization training.
He went further to visit the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR) Kano State campus. The senior staff members of the National Institute brings greetings to you all in Bayelsa State.
We all need to immolate the shining examples of Chef Samuel Timi Johnson to join the State Government with what you could do to promote the economic, social, moral, spiritual and psychological growth and development of the State and the country at large.
Mr Samuel Timi Johnson has made personal sacrifices to come back home despite all the good things he enjoyed as a citizen of the United States of America just to see that his people are uplifted.
The Bayelsa State Governor has already put in place several structures to help in developing the Tourism & Hospitality sub-sector of the economy of the State i.e.

3. The Castle Rock Golf Course
4. The Yenagoa Polo Club
5. The Castle Rock Guest House
6. The Tourism Island Helipads
7. The Asoama Sports Academy
8. A Competent Security outfit etc

We want to call on other sons and daughters to immolate the good examples of Chef Samuel Timi Johnson to take advantage of what the Bayelsa State Governor has put on ground by contributing whatever they could to promote the growth and development of the State in particular and Nigeria at large.
