A former member of the Bayelsa state House of Assembly has been dragged before a Sagbama High Court by Osekwenike community in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa state.
According to the community representatives, Mr. Okorie Anthony, elected President-General and Mr. Davison Otuvie, Secretary-General of Osekwenike community, who spoke to journalists in Yenagoa, said, the duo and other cohorts has allegedly diverted funds accruing to the community from Nigeria Agip Company Ltd.
According to them, that Hon. Prosper Nwaguzo who was President-General of the community has contravened the conventional 3-year tenure by refusing to conduct new executive election to run the affairs.
They further hinted that, failure of the former lawmaker to conduct a election to usher in a new leadership resulted to Hon. Nwaguzo to invite the police to arrest some chiefs and elders of the community.
They the duo further explained that, the elders allegedly bailed themselves with N.4million to free themselves from police net.
In a statement of claim made available to journalists in Yenagoa, they averred that by the custom and tradition of Osekwenike, the elders are the custodians of the culture and heritage of the people of Osewenike community and the physical and spiritual head of the community saddled with further responsibilities maintaining law and order.
That the position of the National Executive Council of Osekwenike Community is by election for three years tenure and presently, the democratically elected president of the above council is Mr. Anthony.
Others are a perpetual injunction restraining 1st - 4th defendant and others from parading themselves as the leadership of Osekwenike Community.
An order restraining the 5th - 8th defenders from recognizing the 2nd-4th defendants as leaders of Osekwenike Community in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa state.
An order restraining the 1st - 11th defendants from giving or payment or anything belonging to Osekwenike Community to 1st – 4th defendants.
They also accuse His Royal Majesty, Frank Okurakpo of being bias in the crises engulfing the community by taking sides with some prominent members of the community at the detriment of the generality of the people.
All attempts to reach out to HRM Okurakpo proved to no avail as he is said to travel out of town.
The matter which was expected to come up in Sagbama High Court sitting in Yenagoa last week could not hold as defending lawyers claimed to have not been properly briefed by the defendant.
