Vigilante groups in Bayelsa State have been commended for their effort to fight crime and criminality in their Areas.
Amba Asuquo Amba, Hon. Commissioner of police, Bayelsa State command made the commendation during a meeting with police officers / vigilante groups in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
The commissioner who said, the security issue is a collective matter that affects every one, advised members present to always share information so that, police can positively combat crime and criminality in the society.
He advised vigilante groups not to take laws in to their hands, as they should report offenders to the divisional police officers when there is urgent need for it.
On questioning, Mr. Amba said, plans are ongoing to open up more police posts in the rural areas, stressing that there will be training activities of the vigilante groups to argument the services of the Nigerian police. The meeting will be a continuous process, as it will give them ample time to strategize on the ways to combat crime in the state.
In his speech, the director of State security, Bayelsa State, Mr. Olu Agbaje advised vigilante groups to be good ambassadors of the security network in the state.
According to him,” vigilante groups should be ministers of defense and not minister of attack against the security agencies”. The essence of the meeting is to set up a road map for effective policing of our communities
