TRIBUNAL GRANT MONKURAI ACCESS TO INSPECT ELECTORAL MATERIALS

The National and State House of Assembly Tribunal of Bayelsa State holding in Yenagoa, has granted and ordered the application of Barrister Ebi Williams Monkurai, who contested under the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), to access materials used in the conduct of the State House of Assembly election in all the units in ward 6, 10, 11 and 12, that comprises Sagbama Constituency II, held on March 9, 2019
.
The motion was supported by a 13 paragraph affidavit and a written address to support the motion ex-parte by the counsel to the petitioner applicant Barr. Joshua Eweke, Esq.
In the order of the counsel to the applicant said, there was no election on the March 9, 2019, as claimed by the so called winner as stated in the petition.

The tribunal also granted the order to inspect the register of party agents, list of adhoc staff and all relevant materials used in the conduct of the election with respect to Sagbama Constituency II. Monkurai had in his petition to the tribunal, faulted the conduct of March 9, State Assembly elections on grounds of non-compliance with relevant
electoral laws and others malpractices such as non-availability of electoral materials, etc.Barr. Monkurai who just returned from the UK, while addressing journalists on the development of the tribunal said, the disenfranchisement of ward 11, by hijacking of electoral materials by certain persons who are purportedly de facto political leaders of ward 11, must come to an end
.
He noted, there are lots of threats to his life, to drop his petition to the tribunal, and all efforts to plead with him by all authority would not work, he vowed.

According to him, the damning inspection that has been granted by th tribunal for Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to produce the electoral materials for inspection, and with the arrival of forensic experts from London to examine the ballot papers, electoral materials, voters register through the Automatic Finger Prints Identification System (AFIS), which are already on ground will prove to the whole world that there was no any free, fair and credible election in
Constituency II.

Meanwhile the tribunal has adjourned sitting to a further date.2019: Hon. Oseke promises to embark on people oriented programmes
