For the only Ijaw homogenous state Bayelsa to rise above the N1billion Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) has been blamed on the inability of Governor Henry Seriake Dickson to venture into areas that could boost the economic sector.
An Economist Dr. Ebiowei Tulagha bared his mind to journalists in Yenagoa as he frowned at the neglect of key infrastructural projects the governor jettisoned when he assumed office.
According to him, “If you take a look at key economic projects embarked upon by his predecessors Governor Dickson’s reluctance to complete them is responsible for the low IGR of Bayelsa state.
The University Don listed the projects to include the Five Star Hotel, Isampou Rice Project, Bayelsa Oil Palm, Peremabiri Rice Project, 500-bed Hospital, Ebedebiri Cassava Farm Project, Bayelsa Fisheries etc.
Dr. Tulagha further noted that Dickson’s projects are “cosmetic” and would not stand the test of time, stressing that he is playing politics with the development of the state.
“Today Dickson is skinning the blood of the people in the name of tax, while he is embarking on frivolous projects that would not impact on the well being of the people”, he added.
The University Don also asked, “Why Dickson is abandoning projects of his predecessors that will boost the IGR of the state, so far as I am concern the governor is only playing to the gallery with the future of the state, he concluded.
