Maintenance brouhaha may deny Bayelsa football clubs to play at Sampson Siasia stadium

There are strong indications that Bayelsa soccer clubs may not play their home matches at the Sampson Siasia stadium, Yenagoa.

This is coming on the heels of disagreement between the state commissioner of sports Pereiye Bouruboyefe and the contractor handling the stadium project, Mr. Ebi Egbe – FIFA match agent.

According to an impeccable source closed to, the FIFA match agent in his spirit of patriotism allowed the finished pitch for Bayelsa United, Bayelsa Queens, All Stars FC and George Turner FC to train and play friendly matches on pitch in preparation for forth coming national league expected to start soon to make higher heights.

What breaks the camel’s neck is that the contractor wanted the ministry of sports to extend the maintenance deal for three months since he used his good office for the maintenance of the pitch since it was completed three months ago.

However, the commissioner declined to buy the contractor’s demand unless the stadium project is formerly handed over to the state government.

We gathered that the contractor has no choice but rather to lock the entrance gate of the stadium until he completes the whole contract.

To this end, tongues have wagged and shrilled among sports stakeholders following the commissioner’s disagreement with the contractor but we gathered that the matter is being addressed by some top government functionaries to enable Bayelsa football clubs playing in the national league to play their home matches at the stadium on the ground that a document must be endorsed to that effect so that both parties loose nothing.
